NEIL

Neil left CGS in 2010 and went to South Thames College and studied Life Skills, English & Maths and then went on to study plumbing and electrical. After these courses Neil stayed on at College and achieved a B-Tech Level 1 in Sports qualification and pursued a career in football coaching, working as a coach for Southwark and Lambeth Football Club, Pure Football Academy, Morden Star Football Club, FC United, AFC Wimbledon foundation, and now is the Head Football Coach for Escalate Elite Coaching.

Growing up, what was your dream job?

My dream job was to be a professional footballer. I played for Fulham Football Academy Under 11's for a while and then moved into coaching as I love the game so much.

What are you doing now?

I am Head Football Coach for Escalate Elite Coaching.

What responsibilities do you have?

I look after the Under 13's team, taking their training sessions, coach their matches and communicate with parents.

How does it feel to have achieved your goals?

In terms of what I have achieved so far, I'm very happy and proud of how far I have progressed myself and from where I've come from.

I still have goals, I want to get my Level 5 in Coaching, and pass my driving test.

What would you say to other pupils at CGS?

I would say to focus hard in school and transmit that into college or apprenticeships. I think they should have a goal early and to not give up and keep pushing, to communicate with others in the field you want to go into so you're always learning. Whatever people say about you - ignore it. Put your head down and work, be true to yourself and go out there and deliver. Be positive through the dark times as they will mould you into a winner. Show respect, be polite and the doors will open!

CALLUM

Callum left CGS and went to Carshalton College where he is currently studying for his Foundation Skills. The course focuses on developing social skills, independence in the home and introducing attributes needed for work.

What do you remember best about doing independence training at Cricket Green?

Ms Coulthard taking us shopping! In year 9 we went - every Tuesday - shopping. There we would buy ingredients to prepare and then cook for our lunch. My favourite was mac and cheese.

Where do you do your work experience?

I worked one week at the British Heart Foundation in Mitcham and one week at Marks and Spencer’s. Both of these work experience placements were arranged by Cricket Green School.
